Blog Change & Big Changes

You'll be forgiven if you don't believe me, but the new website is within a week or two of being ready, and the blog will be integrated into the website, webstore. I'll be moving the content from this site over to the new one, and my next post here will simply re-direct people to the new website/store/blog.

Velorbis Bicycles

We will representing Velorbis and as far as I know, are presently the only dealer in the Southeast US.  I have been riding a Churchill Balloon as my main mode of transportation for the past five months.  I don't have time to do a full write-up right now, but will have a full Velorbis page on the new website.  In brief, Velorbis work within the European City Bike genre but produce the best city bikes possible without compromising quality for cost.  The bicycles have hub brakes and dynamo hub lighting systems standard.  Brooks saddles and grips standard. Three, five, and seven speed hub options are available.  The frames are made from cromoly rather than the hi-tensile steel found on most city bikes.   Frames are lugged, given a rust proofing treatment and powdercoated.  The frames and hand-made and the bicycles assembled in Germany.  I have been impressed enough with mine that I purchased a Ladies' Scrap Deluxe for my wife. The bicycles are a joy to ride and are designed for everyday transportation in normal clothes--you needn't even roll up your pant leg.  This seems like a small detail, but I've found it is much more liberating than you'd think.  The bicycles can be shipped anywhere in the US for those who don't have a dealer nearby.  Bicycles are shipped in crate and are ready to ride after unpacking and about five minutes of assembly requiring no bicycle expertise--turn the handlebars, adjust seat, attach pedals and ride.

Edelux back in stock

I'm receiving a very small shipment of Edelux lights on Tuesday. These are still backordered from Germany, meaning that all the lights that show up in the US are already spoken for. Luckily I spoke for some of the lights in this shipment. The ones I'll have are silver polished. They're $180 and shipping is free.

Call or e-mail to order.

Radio Silence and a Request

Been a long time, I know.  I finally have a viable structure and managment system for the website and although you can't see it yet, we'll have a completely revamped site up within the next couple of weeks.  Much of the structure will remain, but most importantly the products and services we sell will be listed and available for purchase through the website.

I'm busy writing product descriptions day and night.  At first, the site will have a lot of stock product shots from manufacturers' websites.  I don't want it to remain that way in the long run, and I could use some help.  If you like to photograph bikes, bike parts, people on bikes, etc. and are willing to let me use your photographs, please send pictures to longleafbicycles@gmail.com.  I'll credit you in a caption if I use the photo on the website.

What do we need pictures of?  Anything, everything.  Regular readers have a feel for our ethos and know what parts we sell.  Perhaps your photos will remind me a part I should stock, but have previously overlooked.  Photos needn't feature a product we sell.  Don't get me wrong, I want/need specific product shots, but don't hesitate to send in a photo that has nothing to do with what we sell but makes you think "That's why I love bicycles."

Schmidt Edelux In Stock

The much desired Schmidt Edelux are in stock.  The demand for these lights has far outstripped the supply, and I've had these on backorder for several months.   If you know about these lights then no description is necessary.    The lights are $212 and shipping is free.  I have both rack and fender mounted dynamo tailights in stock to pair with the Edelux.

Edit:  The lights are no longer in stock.  Please send me an e-mail if you'd like to be put on a waiting list to receive a light when I have more.
